Krister Hagen (Coop Team) won the first stage of the East Bohemia Tour, included in the UCI Europe Tour 2.2. The second place in spa city Bělohrad belongs to Kamil Zielinski (Domin Sport). Alois Kaňkovský from the home Elkov Author Cycling Team finished on the third position. Hagen will wear the yellow jersey to the final, second stage of the East Bohemia Tour. "I was in a similar situation two years ago in Portugal - but I lost the yellow jersey by one second. Of course, I would like to keep it now. We will see how the second stage will develop, we have a strong team and the stage win will surely encourage us, "said Hagen. "I felt good at the race. I saved my strength and told my colleagues that I would like to get to the final sprint.... In the end, my team colleagues helped me a lot. Elkov Author had a strategy to get ahead of his best sprinter Kaňkovský but I felt I had enough strength for victory.
About fifteen meters from the finish I already knew I could do it, "Hagen described his first UCI race victory. The only Czech representative among the top three was Alois Kaňkovský, winner of the Thursday's city criterion ELKOV Grand Prix of Hradec Králové. "I knew I did not have perfect legs. At the start I was getting slightly cold, I think I had a fever, so I did not feel well. But these are our home races and we wanted to try at least the sprint. Today it was my maximum,“ he explained. The overall winner of East Bohemia Tour will be crowned in the final stage on Saturday in Opočno and its surroundings. A 171-km long track leads traditionally across the Orlické hory.
